- ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
Fitness
Three-Layer Interpretation of Fitness
Rather than saying every fitness test “measures cognition”, Cognitrail divides the interpretation into three layers.
1. Physical Capacity
What can the child physically do?
Physical capacity includes strength, endurance, speed, agility, power, flexibility and coordination.
2. Cognitive-Motor Skills
How does the child think while moving?
Cognitive-motor skills include reaction, attention, motor planning, spatial awareness, sequencing, timing, adaptability and decision making.
3. Behaviour During Performance
How does the child respond to the challenge?
Behaviour during performance includes persistence, effort, self-regulation, following instructions, response to feedback, confidence, frustration tolerance and willingness to try.
Behaviour
Five Dimensions of Behaviour Parameters :
Together, they represent a child’s developing ability to function independently, learn continuously, work with others and contribute positively to their environment.
- SOCIAL
- I can connect with others.
- LEARNING
- I can learn and grow.
- SELF-MANAGEMENT
- I can manage myself.
- ENTERPRISING
- I can take action.
- LEADERSHIP
- I can positively influence others.
We keep assessments developmental rather than judgmental, which is especially important when communicating psychological and behavioural assessments to parents.
Cognition
Key Parts of Cognition
- Attention: The ability to focus on one task or object.
- Memory: The ability to store and remember information.
- Reasoning: The ability to think logically and figure out rules.
- Problem-solving: Finding answers when faced with a challenge.

How Cognitrail Assessment Works
Assess → Observe → Understand → Plan → Develop → Track
01. ASSESS
We measure selected cognitive, behavioural, social and physical abilities using age-appropriate assessments and structured activities.
02. OBSERVE
We observe how your child responds during real activities and situations.
This is important because real emotions can trigger real behaviour—sometimes revealing patterns a child may not yet recognise in themselves.
03. COLLECT DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES
We may take inputs from parents, coaches and other relevant adults who observe the child in different environments.
04. ANALYSE
We look beyond individual scores to understand patterns across different parameters.
05. INTERPRET
Our team converts the information into meaningful observations, possible relationships and areas of strength or support.
06. PLAN
Short-term and long-term development goals are identified according to the child’s individual needs.
07. DEVELOP
Cognitrail sessions are adapted to work on the areas that matter most for that child.
08. TRACK
The same or comparable parameters are reassessed over time so parents can see how development is progressing.
How to Read Your Cognitrail Charts
Cognitrail charts are designed to make development easier for parents to understand visually.
Rather than looking at a single number, look for:
Strengths
Areas where your child is showing positive development or a natural advantage.
Ask:
How can we use this strength to support other areas?
Areas for Development
Abilities where additional practice, experience or guidance may be useful.
Ask:
What experiences can help my child strengthen this ability?
Progress Over Time
Compare your child’s results across assessment periods.
Ask:
Is the pattern moving in a positive direction?
Differences Between Observers
Parent and coach perspectives may not always be the same.
That is not necessarily a problem. It is information.
From Assessment to Personalised Sessions
Cognitrail uses assessment findings to influence what happens inside development sessions.
For example:
If a child needs support with persistence
Activities may gradually introduce manageable challenges that encourage the child to continue after difficulty.
If a child needs support with decision-making
Sessions can create situations where the child has to evaluate information, make choices and experience the consequences of those choices.
If a child needs support with emotional regulation
Activities can introduce controlled situations involving frustration, waiting, uncertainty or changing conditions, followed by guided reflection.
If a child needs support with social adaptability
Sessions can provide structured opportunities to communicate, cooperate, negotiate and work with different peers.
The assessment informs the experience. The experience creates an opportunity for development.
Watch Development Happen
One of the most valuable parts of Cognitrail is seeing change over time.
Instead of remembering:
“I think my child has improved.”
parents can see:
Where they started → What changed → Where they are now → What comes next
Progress can be displayed visually across assessment periods, allowing parents to see developmental trends and discuss them with the Cognitrail team.
This makes development visible, trackable and easier to understand.
From Data to Development
Measure → Understand → Act → Track → Adapt
Because the purpose of assessment is not to tell you where your child stands.
It is to help you understand where they can grow next.
